A Good Day for Love

April 17, 2013 by Chump Lady

Gay marriage was just legalized in New Zealand today.

Best speech EVER. I love when he calculates exactly how long it will take for him to burn in hell.

Isn’t it wonderful how he used such great humor to deliver a marvelous piece of education and a heartfelt message. I just love the light-hearted nature of oh-so important historic speech.

That was great, I too loved the “for you who thought this bill caused a drought, it poured and there was a great gay rainbow” 🙂

    Smart man.
My XW is a homophobe, as well as a racist.

And the whole Parliament burst into song right after the vote. A love song, “Pokarehari Ana,” about which I found the following:

“Unofficially it is New Zealand’s second national anthem. It is believed to have been communally written by Maori soldiers in training camp during World War I. Here are the lyrics and then a translation.

Pōkarekare ana, ngā wai o Waiapu
Whiti atu koe hine, marino ana e
E hine e, hoki mai ra, kamate ahau i te aroha e.
Tuhituhi taku reta, tuku atu taku rīni
Kia kite tō iwi, raruraru ana e.
E hine e, hoki mai ra, ka mate ahau i te aroha e.

Stormy are the waters on restless Waiapu
If you cross them, girl, they will be calmed
Oh girl, come back to me, my heart is dying of love for you.
I have written you a letter, and enclosed with it my ring,
So your people can see how troubled I am
Oh girl, come back to me, my heart is dying of love for you.”
