News on New Leave a Cheater Gain a Life Book
Hey, I wanted to give you all a sneak peek at the cover for the new, updated Leave a Cheater, Gain a Life book coming out in September.
***
There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes here in the Chump Lady cave. My publisher Hachette is re-issuing my book, Leave a Cheater, Gain a Life for its 10 year anniversary this year in an updated version that comes out in September.
What to know about the new edition of Leave a Cheater, Gain a Life:
New chapters on polyamory and monogamy, and testimonials
Throuples, polycules, open marriage threats — it’s all here. With a new letter and chapter devoted to untangling monogamy and polyamory. Cheating is an entitlement problem, not a monogamy problem. And the threat of bad actors not abiding by agreed upon relationship terms has nothing to do how many partners you have or in what sequence.
I will record the new audio book.
This is the part I’m most excited about. I know the audiobook has its fans and people love Laura Copeland’s voice (a professional actor). But I’ve never been able to listen to it, because it’s not in my voice. Finally, the book and all the F-bombs will be in my singular potty mouth.
Please note: the current audiobook will NOT be available after June. Come June, you’ll only be able to pre-order the new version. So you if you know a chump who needs it now, buy it. (The print book, I’m told, will be still be available for sale up to September. But maybe not, depending on what’s left in stock.)
Some changes to the old format.
The new edition will still have my cartoon illustrations, but they’ll be in black and white. Print costs have gone up and to keep the book at an affordable price point, the color had to go, alas. So, again, if you love the old design, get it before it’s gone. There’s also a new subhead, “A No-Nonsense Guide to Taking Back Your Power After Infidelity.” Which is a bit of a mouthful, but I don’t control these things.
I’m going to be on a book tour.
Right now with the help of Ronni and Maryse, the awesome organizers who brought you Chumpalooza a few years ago, we’re organizing a book launch, and tour. We’d love your ideas on this. The launch will be some time in September, current thinking is we’ll do it in Detroit, Michigan or Lancaster, PA. Then in October the plan is to hit Los Angeles, California, Austin, Texas, and then back to the east coast (where I can drive to various destinations more easily, as I live in PA.)
Apparently, the way these things go is you pitch independent book stores, and if you can guarantee a certain minimum of people like 20 folks, they’ll book you. We’ll have more idea of my itinerary closer to this fall, but if you’d like me to speak where you are, get in touch.
The podcast is still going strong.
Check out Tell Me How You’re Mighty! The podcast Sarah Gorrell and I do snarking about cheaters and dispensing our wise auntie advice. And please review us on Apple podcasts (where the reviews help the algorithm. We’re slaves to the algorithm. Please review All The Things — the book, the podcast, my outfit… I need stars.)
I have a Substack so I can say ‘Jesus Ch**ter’
These last 18 months have been very challenging as a blogger. This will probably be an entire post for another time, but you’ve probably noticed fewer F-bombs, more asterisks, and fewer articles on FW politicians and religious hypocrites. It’s because of Google. I’ve been dinged twice now for “dangerous and derogatory” speech. Which is policed by AI bots. As Google is a monopoly on both search engines and online advertising (how I pay myself), noncompliance is not an option. Moving platforms, however is. So going forward my edgier stuff will live on Substack where I can (for now!) swear and blasphemy with abandon. And comment on Lauren Sanchez’s boobs.
Please note, if you currently subscribe to the blog (as in you get an email each day I post here), you are subscribed now at Substack. (I moved the mailing list over.) But going forward, for any newbies or non-subscribers — please subscribe to me over there. I’m sorry, I know it’s a cluster.
More Chump Nation hype
Did you know I was in the British tabloid The Daily Mail recently? They reached out to ask for my how I became Chump Lady story and I provided the grisly details, complete with the thong I found in my bed. That led to being interviewed on a new UK podcast (more details soon when that comes out) and an invitation to appear on ITV’s morning show. Which brings me to:
I need a British friend.
An ITV producer has reached out to ask if I could come on their show with some UK chumps and talk about this community. Any willing volunteers? (Alas, Sarah can’t get permission from her employer to be on the show.) They want a British angle. If you want to be my TV buddy, please get in touch. This is a great opportunity to change the narrative!
Well, this is about all the self-promotion I can handle for one day. Look at all the amazing things you’ve done Chump Nation! There would be no book, no podcast, and no inquiring British journalists without your vibrant badassery. Thank you all so much for being here and paying it forward for the newbie chumps.

Congratulations on the new book! Any chance you could take the tour to Toronto? Canadian chumps love and need you!
I also second Colorado! The Boulder Book Store loves to have author events.
I’d totally consider Canada. I understand the border trepidation.
I’m a us based chump but I’m be in Toronto oct 3-4 or thereabouts!
I second the request for a Toronto visit!! Unfortunately, visiting the US right now isn’t an option for many Canadians. Heck, you can stay at my place if need be! ๐
Please come to Colorado! I will bring the posse to cheer. Maybe near Park Meadow mall, for easy access, free parking, and accessible to all of the Front Range.
Also voting Colorado. One local bookseller is called The Tattered Cover and they have more than one location.
Yes, though parking is not easy and access from Springs not so great. But, yes, yes, Colorado! Would so enjoy meeting other Front Range chumps, too! We welcome you here, in an area of lots of RIC silliness.
I guess I’m taking a trip to Detroit!
It might also be Lancaster, PA. I’m waiting to find out when the actual release date is. (I spend summers in Michigan.)
Iโd drive to Detroit if it didnt involve crossing the border, which is scary these days for non-US citizens.
Apparently they are starting to detain US citizens coming back from abroad. So it’s scary for everyone these days.
The Soviets did that.
I actually love the new subtitle.
I wonder if chumps could help fund/mail/distribute postcards to local Bar Associations, domestic abuse programs, fitness centers, libraries, etc ahead of appearance. Hopefully, good attendance will elicit more publisher support.
If a postcard campaign is permitted by publisher, can any chump provide an estimate for 1000 printed, two-sided postcards (book cover in color on front). Mailings would be targeted locally, so first class postage would be additional.
I would drive all over to distribute. Tracy’s message is so important especially in these turbulent times. Notice the administration is chock-full of serial cheaters and personality disordered FW
Arapahoe Library district in Colorado does loads of book nights. Some of them quite feminist-oriented and very non-traditional. Always well-attended. Great location, easy access, lots of free parking.
Congratulations!!!! I’ m so excited for this. You deserve all the success and I am so grateful for this place!
Traverse City National Writers Series pretty please!!!!!!!!
You know TC is beautiful in the summer & fall. I’ll host a Chump event before hand!!!!!
I’m in Petoskey. I’ll check it out! Thank you!
I should also say CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
My original moniker was notBLUEintc, which was a dig on Asshatโs company name in Traverse City. I changed it when I no longer wanted him to occupy any headspace.
Hope to see you at The Opera House in the National Writers Series lineup!!!!
Congratulations! Your book and blog is life changing and so ahead of its time. Thank you!
Congratulations on the updated book, Tracy! The subtitle is great and it totally resonates for me. Your book has been a game changer, and your amazing community gave me back my dignity and power. I’m so grateful to you. I want to help spread the word about this book, and here’s one way to do it.
Chumps, we have the power to get this life-saving book into libraries. Contact your local library/favorite librarian and ask for the book to be purchased. Same goes for the audiobook. Libraries are tax-funded and we the people get to ask for books to be added to their collection. I live in a fairly large metro area so there are many library branches near me. I plan to ask the central library as well as various smaller branches to carry the physical book. The Libby app is the go-to place for ebooks and audiobooks, so I’ll also ask the central library folks to buy those versions for Libby.
Please take a few minutes to do the same in your area. Librarians love it when people reach out to them. It’s a win-win!
If someone gets an initiative going I am happy to simply donate copies to libraries when the time comes.
Congratulations, Tracy. Thank you so much for doing the work you do. You’re saving lives.
Ahhh, Lancaster! I’d say that’s within striking distance…
My September is filling up rapidly but if able and it were Lancaster (or points west) and I am available I am down for the road trip.
I remain excited for the updated version and the new audiobook!
This is fabulous news! ๐๐๐
CONGRATULATIONS TRACY!! You’ve done ALL the leg work for 10 years and never gave up on your message nor let your voice be silenced. Your cartoons will look just fine in B&W and the testimonials will be a fabulous addition.
Using your own voice on any recording will be far superior than anyone elses. It is melodious and rich with overtones of a Fall day. When you say the F*** word it sounds like a compliment, so your medicine is delivered with ๐ฏ a teaspoon of honey.
KC needs to be on your list but I’m not a mover or shaker, just a follower who was pulled from the ๐ฅ fire.Hopefully my KC peeps will jump in to help.
I still wish for a sanitized version for the Folks who have tender ears, but I know it is who you are from the soul out. I’m so grateful i pushed through to a life. Thank you Tracy for such devotion to our tribe.
We Seattle-based chumps would love to see you bring a book tour here!
I would second a request for a Seattle tour!
Would love to attend a SoCal date. Fall is a hectic time since kiddo is back in school and in soccer. Fingers crossed the calendar lines up!
Congratulations Tracy! If you’re making it all the way out to SoCal, how about popping up to NorCal/Bay Area! San Jose would be fantastic! I hope to meet you!
I am so excited to see Los Angeles on the list!!! Congrats on the new book, can hardly wait to buy it and get it signed by you on your book tour!
Halfway between Portland and Seattle would kill two large birds with one stone.
How about Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand, Tracy? Kind of a long way to come I know, but Iโm pretty sure thereโs a few of us Kiwis who would love to meet you.
CONGRATS Tracy! You deserve all the continued success as youโve helped so many Chumps through some of the darkest hours of their lives! Not even many family physicians can say that!
Happy to be your #1 fan in Vancouver, Canada ๐จ๐ฆ and huge supporter of your F bombs. ๐
Sincerely,
Chumpadellic
Congratulations and thanks for your work! If you’re going to the UK, kindly consider a trip to Amsterdam (4-hours direct train LON/AMS) – The American Book Center in the city center hosts events with authors.
Argh Tracy, I remember your trip to Newcastle, Australia. Wonderful ๐ Now look where you areโฆ.
Hey Tracy, congrats on your 2nd edition of LACGAL. I look forward to reading the updates. I would so love to be your English buddy on the television but my adult son would be utterly mortified if that happened. I can have a smile to myself imagining it though! That said, let us know when you are being broadcast cos I’d love to watch you. Thanks for everything you do.
Congrats on the new book! If you are in Detroit, consider looking at Schuler Books. They are a privately owned bookseller here in Michigan and have a great following of happy customers: https://www.schulerbooks.com/
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have an ask. Can you include a chapter/section on how to co-parent with a NPD ex-spouse? I have a toddler with my XH. My divorce was finalized about a month ago after over a year of his unbelievable aggression using legal, medical, police, CPS, administrative and other means. Thank goodness for your book!!! I hired an attorney and did my best to go GR, and BIF (less on the friendly) when unable to go GR. We use an app to communicate. Now, he is playing the calm, cool co-parent to our court appointed child-related-matters decision maker, pretending to be the reasonable one. I just gave the facts to the decision maker. We are now awaiting a legal decision on the future of my child. It would be nice to have a chapter on how to manage this for me to easily refer to in the future.
I wish I had the ability to come and thank you in person but it isn’t in the cards for me this year. Can’t wait to get the new book! Thank you for doing what you do!
As soon as I’m through this reissue, I’m hoping to shop my second book on coparenting with FWs. I’ll keep you posted!
An entire book! Awesome! Looking forward to getting it ๐
Iโve bought many co-parenting books and some have been marginally helpful at best. The only truly useful book I have found was โThe Parallel Parenting Solutionโ by Carl Knickerbocker. In addition to being essential in setting up my divorce settlement terms, it helped me put a label on our โparallel parentingโ setup. We are definitely not โco-parentingโ.
Your wisdom in this arena is sorely needed. Thank you!
